What Is This I Don't Even

Oh, the miniatures you find on eBay...

Listed as "Dwarf Deamon Slayer"

The listing reads in its entirety: Description : Warhammer painted miniature ... what u see ... what u get

Alrighty then!

  1. What? It's a Daemon Slayer, the final segment of the Troll Slayer > Giant Slayer > Daemon Slayer career path. It's a mohawked dwarf standing proudly on top of a severed daemon head. Makes sense to me.

  2. Here's an unpainted pic. Makes it clearer, I think. :) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-GD-Ltd-Ed-Dwarf-Demon-Slayer-Games-Day-/360390776148

  3. Two things:

First, for some reason those downturned horns looked like stumpy arms to me at first and now I can't unsee it.

Second - and this deserves a post all its own - I have a...thing...about the tendency to stick single figures on top of huge diorama bases. Like having some dude balanced on top of an 8 inch rock glued precariously to a 20mm slottabase. If you want to make a diorama, fine. Just put it on a properly sized base and don't try and use it as a figure in your games.

I am equal parts silly and curmudgeonly this morning.

  4. I will admit that I initially saw it as a stubby, flipper-armed thing wearing a crested helmet with a braided visor and a demon face as a chest plate, too.

  5. I'm staring at it but I'm completely unable to do whatever magic-eye thing I need to do to get it to look like anything other than a dwarf standing on a head.

  6. Yeah I saw the flipper arms and demon head chestplate too. I sort of figured this guy is a dwarf wearing one of the giant padded suits for teaching women self-defense, only more like GWAR.

  7. At least it looks weird intentionally, unlike many of my minis...

  8. Thought you might find this interesting: I've set up a one-shot for our gaming table as an excursion into high fantasy while we take a short pause in our Pendragon campaign.

Are you folks ever going to make it out to SF again? Look me up if you do. I'd love to find a way to game at the same table for an evening.

  9. Eric: That one-shot looks like a lot of fun! Sometimes mandatory downtime can really pay off when it gets your brain going for ideas.

Des and I have talked often about going back to the Bay Area for a visit--might make it happen sometime next year. Appreciate the invite. I'll definitely look you up when it happens!
